Recipes: Passionfruit

Passion fruit is high in fibre and vitamin C and is native to South America. Grown on vines, it has a mildly sweet flavour that makes it great for eating plain, adding to salads and desserts, making sauces and blending with other fruits. In the Australia the most commonly-available variety of passion fruit is round and purple in colour. Typically they are about the size of a plum and inside the pulp is a golden-orange colour with small black edible seeds. For the best flavour and texture, choose fruit that is ripe to slightly overripe.

Purchase fruit with a smooth skin that is free of discoloration and bruises. Wrinkled skin indicates that the fruit is older, but it still may be edible.
